Psoriasis and Suntanning

If you have psoriasis you will most likely enjoy spending time suntanning as you will see some great results as the sun not only gives you some great colour in your skin, it also helps partly clear up your psoriasis on a temporary basis.

If you are lucky enough to live in a part of the world where there is a constant summer sun, such as southern California or some of the other sub tropical parts of the world. Unfortunately, the majority of the world only enjoys sun during the summer months, which can lead to some psoriasis sufferers taking frequent vacations to warmer destinations or permanently relocating to benefit from the sun's properties.

However, if you suffer from summer psoriasis you will find that the sun's rays can actually aggravate your psoriasis.

Although the suns rays can be damaging if excess exposure occurs, which can lead to melanoma, the beginnings of skin cancer, it had to be said that for those with psoriasis which responds to the sun, the benefits far outweigh the negative aspects.

If you intend to use the sun as a treatment for your psoriasis, please remember to take care when tanning. Keep to short periods of tanning, less than 20 minutes to start with. If your skin starts to burn in this time, you should reduce the session by five minutes.

If you are looking for another solution to sun tanning, there are other effective treatments for psoriasis.

Amoils produce a great treatment oil which quickly heals psoriasis by moisturizing the skin and preventing patches appearing.
